Cyclops to be introduced on all trucks
Irish hauliers will have to fork out for front mirrors on all trucks after
Transport Minister Martin Cullen stated that he will seek EU agreement
for a new law to be introduced.
The Transport Minister wants to see all trucks fitted with front mirrors
following the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a truck in Co. Kerry
last month.
There are already plans for all new trucks to be fitted with cyclops
mirrors from January 2007, but Mr Cullen is keen for all trucks to be
fitted with the mirror.
The Minister is in favour of retro-fitting and is keen to secure
EU-wide agreement on the issue. He also intends to advance the matter
at the upcoming transport council meeting, said a spokeswoman for
the Minister.
President of the Irish Road Haulage Association Vincent Caulfield fully
backs the plan and has urged all their members to do so.
