Death by dangerous driving verdict in Galway
An inquest into the tragic deaths of Galway couple Shay and Theresa English
last year has returned a verdict of accidental death by dangerous driving.
The couple, who were on their way to Dublin, died instantly on the morning
of February 11 2005 when their Opel Vectra was struck by an articulated
truck which had inexplicably swerved onto the wrong side of the road close
to Mother Hubbards at Moyvilla, Oranmore.
The English driver of the lorry has since been convicted of dangerous
driving causing death. He had spent the night sleeping in his truck in
the restaurant car-park and had just embarked on his journey when the
accident occurred.
The driver issued a deposition for the record, in which he stated: I
accept that I was on the wrong side of the road.
