Port Tunnel expenses slashed
Contractors working on the Dublin Port Tunnel have decided to greatly
reduce their extra expenses bill that had been incurred during the project.
Contractors had issued a bill in the region of €444 million, but
it has been alleged that they will settle for half this amount, thus avoiding
a major row with government officials.
The consortium developing the Port Tunnel, Nishimatsu Mowlem Irishenco
(NMI) show the Japanese end are looking for €45 million in expenses,
while Mowlem, who are U.K based are seeking between €130 and €150
million.
Dublin City Council has stated that the cost of the Tunnel will be the
price first negotiated with the contractors and there would be no change.
The estimated overall budget is €752 million. The final cost
will not be significantly more than the above figure. In effect the Dublin
Port Tunnel will come in close to the current budget cost.
