Clarification sought on dock plans

Shannon Foynes Port Company (SFPC) has been warned that any ideas of selling off the Limerick docks to property developers will be meet with opposition.

The SFPC run six ports along the Shannon estuary and reports have suggested that business handled at Limerick can be transferred to Foynes.
However, Limerick Cllr Joe Leddin, who was speaking at a City Council meeting wanted to clarify the Port Company’s plans for the docks.
“I want them to engage with the city council as to how best to develop this area. Contrary to popular belief the throughput of vessels coming into Limerick docks is increasing.

“Surely the port company should be striving to improve the facilities at Limerick docks so as to accommodate ships berthing and unloading in a safe manner.”
