Quarry accident claims life

An accident at a quarry just outside Kilkenny city resulted in the death of a man in his fifties after he fell into a large limestone silo.

The accident occurred at Bennettsbridge Limestone Quarries Ltd at around midday on Thursday 30th March. Three co-workers attempted to save the man by jumping into the silo also, but unfortunately their efforts were in vain.

The emergency services were called to the scene and they were forced to cut a hole in the side of the silo in order to remove the deceased’s body.
A post-mortem is due to take place, while the man’s name has not been released yet.
