Survey shows Irish car prices above EU average
Car prices in Ireland are almost a third higher than the EU average and
are continuing to rise according to research from motoring research firm
roadtodata.com.
The data shows that car prices in Ireland rose by 1.7% in the twelve
months to the end of April. Fuel prices also increased during the same
time.
Average prices for diesel (model sales) increased by 2.2% as diesel
sales grew by nearly 20% compared to a year earlier, taking diesels
share of the Irish new car market to 21%. Petrol market sales grew much
less quickly, by only 5%, with petrol vehicle prices increasing by 1.7%,
the survey said.
The average car price in Ireland, including Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT)
was 30% higher than in other eurozone countries at the end of the first
quarter.
Car prices in Denmark are 93% more expensive than the average. Switzerland
is the least expensive. Car prices in the first quarter of the year were
10% below the average when measured in euros.
Portugal was identified as the market with the highest rate of increase
in new car prices. In the UK, car prices rose much faster than the European
average despite the market still declining slightly. Price increases in
Spain, Germany and France were close to the European average.
