DAF is expanding its XF105 series with rigids and multi-axles
After DAF Trucks started production of the XF105's 4x2 tractor models
in January 2006, production of the 4x2 rigids as well as a broad range
of 6x2 versions of DAFs new top model has also commenced. In the
autumn, this range will be completed with 6x4, 8x2 and 8x4 versions, including
the FTM, an 8x4 tractor with double-drive tandem and a steered leading
rear axle for extra heavy use.
DAF will supply the XF105 rigid as a standard 4x2 model with wheel bases
ranging from 4.90 to 6.90 metres and gross load capacities of up to 13
tonnes. In addition, an extended range of 6x2 rigids is available for
gross load capacities of around 19 tonnes. The trailing-axle versions
are available single-mounted, with air suspension on the rear axle, and
dual-mounted, with either leaf springs or air suspension on the rear axle.
Air suspension at the front is optional. The XF105 is also available as
a 6x2 rigid with steered trailing rear axle for extra high manoeuvrability
and yard-friendliness.
Tractors with leading or trailing rear axle
Within the tractor range, one of the very latest versions to be offered
are the 6x2 models with a steered and optionally liftable leading rear
axle that increases the maximum fifth wheel load by approximately six
tonnes to over 18 tonnes. An important advantage of the steered leading
rear axle is the high yardfriendliness.
For operators who do not always need this high additional pay load, DAF
also supplies the XF105 with a light and non-steered leading rear axle
with 17.5 wheels. Providing around four tonnes of extra payload
for GVWs up to 44 tonnes.
For special, often heavy, applications, 6x2 XF105 tractors are available
with an 8-tonne trailing axle; either single or dual-mounted for a payload
of around 17.5 tonnes.
Low-Deck tractor
For transportation of large volumes, DAF can supply a tractor version
of the XF105 which has an extremely low fifth wheel height of only 96
centimetres. This means that trailers with an inside height of nearly
three metres can be used for load volumes of up to 100 m3. The XF105 Low-Deck
tractor is available with a 3.60 m or 3.80 m wheel base. The Low-Deck
tractor has a 7.1-tonne front axle with parabolic springs and an 11.5-tonne
rear axle with four-bellow air suspension. A front axle with air suspension
is also available as an option. With the Low-Deck tractor, the air reservoirs
and other components have also been fitted to the inside of the chassis
wherever possible, thus providing more space for the fuel tanks with a
capacity of up to 940 litres.
DAF SCR Technology
DAF uses SCR DeNOx Technology across the entire range of models. This
is the best, and currently the most economical, solution to meet both
Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission requirements. Here, AdBlue is injected into
the exhaust gases, so that in the DeNOx catalytic converter, the nitrogen
oxides are broken down into the harmless substances nitrogen and water.
SCR technology is relatively simple and thus extremely reliable and efficient.
Because this emission after-treatment technology does not interfere with
the engine, the engine settings can be optimised to achieve an ideal combustion,
resulting in favourable fuel consumption. However, DAF SCR Technology
goes even further.
The XF105 is supplied with the new 12.9 litre PACCAR MX engine, which
is available with outputs ranging from 300 kW/410 hp to 375 kW/510 hp
in both Euro 4 as well as Euro 5 versions and which set standards in efficiency,
reliability and durability. The engine has a state-of-the-art SMART high-pressure
injection system for optimum combustion, resulting in low fuel consumption
and minimal particle emissions. The Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards can be
met without the need for a soot filter.
