Waterford to benefit from drainage works

Water quality in Waterford is set to improve with a major investment of drainage works set to get underway in the area.

The plan will mean that major road works will be needed in the city. Waterford County Council has signed contracts with Pierse Contracting Ltd for part of the second phase of the Waterford Main Drainage Scheme.
The project will provide for quality of water going into the River Suir. Waste water will be moved to a treatment plant at Gorteens, Co. Kilkenny.

The scheme will eliminate the discharges of untreated waste water. The treatment plant will also allow for projected domestic, commercial and industrial developments up to 2025.

Works will take place in the Dunmore Road area to install interceptor pipelines beside the riverbank from Island View to Maypark and at Glenville and Freshfields. The construction of around 3.9km of gravity sewers and 1.8km of rising mains will be included.
