Quarry owners may need permission to work on site

The intensity of work at a quarry near Newport in Co. Mayo could mean that the quarry owners have to look for permission for the works at the site.

Mr Justice Eamon de Valera made the ruling in the High Court. Mayo County Council had argued that the quarry was an unauthorised development and that several complaints had been received from local residents.

The judge will make an order on May 29th in relation to the quarry development at Cartron, Newport. Geraghty Brothers Civil Engineering had denied increasing work over and above what An Board Pleanala had assessed.
