Divers to continue fishing vessel search
Naval Service divers are set to continue their search for the wreck of
the fishing vessel Maggie B which sank off the south-east coast earlier
this year.
Two people died in the tragedy. A total of thirteen divers travelled to
the search area on board the Irish lights vessel Granuaille on Monday,
May 22nd. The plan is to have a vehicle deployed to ascertain the exact
position of the wreck.
Minister of State for Transport Pat the Cope Gallagher requested the search.
Skipper Glynn Cott and his Polish crewman Jan Sankowski have not been
seen since the sinking on March 29th. The families of the deceased believe
that the cause of the incident will only be established if the boat is
found.
The Marine Investigation Board is carrying out an official investigation
into the sinking.
The board has also been carrying out tests on the lobster boat Rising
Sun. This was salvaged off the Wexford coast in January. Two fishermen
and a diver lost their lives as a result of the boats sinking in
November.
