Recycling company to supply fuel to China
Waste management firm Greyhound Recycling and Recovery has announced a
E20 million venture to supply Irish developed biofuel technology to two
major Chinese business partners.
The company has its headquarters in Clondalkin. It reuses and recovers
450,000 tonnes of waste annually.
Shuzhou, west of Shanghai, will benefit from alternative fuel. Greyhound
will supply the Chinese market with the technology to develop biodiesel
and refuse derived fuel. Liaising with Queens University, the company
has produced high-quality biodiesel from recycled used cooking oil.
Greyhound director Brian Buckley praised the Chinese for their innovation
and ability to see beyond traditional fuels.
The Chinese have recognised the potential of these technologies
to address the very real problem of fuel shortages in China and in fact
are putting Ireland to shame in their adoption of alternatives to traditional
fossil fuels, he said.
He also said that Greyhounds partners in China intend to use more
bio-diesel with mineral diesel than is allowed in Ireland. At the moment
five per cent is the maximum allowed in Ireland. Mr Buckley said that
he intends using a 40 per cent blend in China.
