DAF engine wins award at Bus World Asia

Published on 24 May 2010

DAF Trucks has recently been awarded the prestigious Award for the Alternative Plaza 2010 for its PACCAR engine at the Bus World Asia Exhibition in Shanghai.

Commenting on the award, a spokesperson for the jury said that it choose the engine for its durability, efficiency and environmental friendliness.

DAF received the award thanks to the outstanding reliability, durability and excellent fuel efficiency of the 9.2 litre PACCAR PR- and 12.9 litre PACCAR MX-engines.

The fact that DAF is the first manufacturer to offer ultra-clean EEV engines in Asia for use in buses and coaches also played an important role in winning the award.

‘Bus World Asia’ is one of the world’s most prestigious bus and coach exhibitions, held yearly in Shanghai. In 2007, 2008 and 2009, DAF was honoured with the award: ‘Best Engine Producer of the Year’. This title has been superseded by the ‘Award for the Alternative Plaza’ and recognizes suppliers to the bus and coach industry, particularly those that made important contributions in the field of environmental care.

The jury consists of 25 members, amongst which are representatives of the exhibition organization and Chinese as well as international trade journalists.

Jury chairman Martial Benoot added: “Furthermore, DAF is the first manufacturer that offers ultraclean EEV-diesel engines in the Chinese market for use in buses and coaches.

"These engines emit at least 33% less soot particles compared to the current Euro 5 standard and its Chinese equivalent. Also, because of DAF’s pioneering role in the field of environmental care, DAF received the ‘Award for the Alternative Plaza 2010’.”

DAF have been supplying bus engines to all the leading Chinese bus manufacturers for the past nine years.

Ron Bonsen, member of the Board of Management of DAF Trucks and responsible for Marketing & Sales said: “The fact that we won an important award at Bus World Asia for the fourth consecutive time, is a confirmation of the excellent reputation that DAF has acquired as supplier of engines for buses and coaches.

"With the introduction of ultra-clean EEV-engines, we are able to meet the most stringent emission requirements of cities like Singapore and regions like Hong Kong.”
