Vehicle production picks up but HGVs still down
Published on 13 July 2010
Recently released figures from the ACEA Economic Report show that production and demand across the EU rebounded in the first months of 2010 compared to the negative levels of 2009.
While passenger cars were showing a growth the production of heavy trucks was still down in the first quarter of 2010. Three months in 2010 new passenger car production in the EU recorded a rebound of 34% compared to the same period for 2009. However this is a still down some 13% on pre-crisis figures for 2008. A similar picture is also seen for vans registered a 51% increase in the first three months of 2010 but it too was down 35% on 2008. Truck production decreased by 5% until April this year, and by 63% compared to the first quarter of 2008. The demand for commercial vehicles cautiously points towards recovery although the segment of vans was the only one to record positive figures since February.
