Coming up on 20 years in business, John Fenton Commercial Truck & Trailer provides a top-class truck and trailer repair and maintenance service in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork. Owner John Fenton explains more.

Specialising in the repair and maintenance of Scania trucks, John Fenton Commercial Truck & Trailer was founded in 1999 by John, who has a wealth of experience and a vast knowledge of the industry. He was just 15 when he began serving his time as a mechanic with Foley’s Garage in Watergrasshill in 1981. He went on to work for Pat O’Donovan of O’Donovan Transport in Carrigtwohill for four years and the experience he gained from maintaining their fleet has clearly stood him in good stead.

“It gave me a good schooling and I still work for O’Donovan Transport today. In fact, they’re one of my best customers,” says John, who is related to the legendary Midleton and Cork hurler of the same name.

“We’re in a great location 3km outside Carrigtwohill and only a short drive from Cork city. We have a 3,000 sq. ft. workshop which has a large yard to the front. We’re only around the corner from AOC Commercials, who are the main Scania dealers in the area. As Scania repair specialists, we’re convenient to a lot of their customers.”

John Fenton Commercial Truck & Trailer can carry out all necessary maintenance and repairs to your truck, trailer or commercial at its modern workshop, which boasts a full range of diagnostics for all makes and models. The garage also carries a wide range of spare parts and offers a 24-hour breakdown and recovery service for trucks and commercials throughout the Munster region.

“We aim to service and repair your vehicle to a standard that will exceed your expectations,” says John, who is joined in the family business by his wife Catherine and brother Denis, who is also a qualified mechanic.

“We pride ourselves on our quick turnaround time and being a reliable, efficient service that you can count on, day or night. Our workshop caters for heavy and light goods vehicles and all types of trailers. We are here to keep the wheels of your transport business turning with routine maintenance, service and repairs.”

Preparing your vehicle for CVRT testing is all part of the service provided by John, who will answer any queries before and after the test. His objective is to prepare the vehicle efficiently and assist the vehicle owner in getting a pass certificate. If a vehicle undergoing a CVRT test is found to be in need of repair work, it can be carried out later. He will also ensure that your vehicle comes through the mandatory RSA inspection with flying colours.

John has scores of satisfied clients from across Munster. His large and loyal customer-base includes Dingle Transport, Christy Lucey Transport, Mark Brennan Transport, Sean Holmes Transport, Ryanway Ltd, Orroroco Teoranta International Transport, Aqua-Sea Ltd, Denis O’Leary Transport, Hallissey Livestock Exports, TLH Transport, O’Connor Kerry Haulage Ltd.

“We’ve got some great customers who have stuck with us through thick and thin. If you haven’t got good customers, you are at nothing. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their continued support and to say how much of a pleasure it is dealing with them. We are dedicated to being a one-stop shop for all their repair and service needs,” he adds.

John has seen many changes in the truck and commercial repairs business over the last 35 years but has always kept himself abreast and up-to-speed with the latest advances in technology.

“There was no such thing as computer diagnostics when I started in this game, but now it’s a huge part of it. You have to learn as you go along, but the basics are still the same. Experience still counts for an awful lot and we have plenty of it. As a family-run business, we offer the personal touch and will do whatever it takes to make sure our customers are 100 per cent satisfied. We aim to minimise downtime and have your vehicle back on the road as quickly as possible. We provide a prompt, price-competitive and friendly service.”
