ATC keen to expand services on Arvato’s global footprint after acquisition
17/07/2025
In January, ATC Computer Transport & Logistics was acquired by global service provider Arvato, a company which specialises in supply chain management and e-commerce solutions. Irish Trucker touched base with ATC Managing Director Keith Young to discuss the big news and what he sees for the Dublin-headquartered firm going forward.
Some three months in and 2025 is already set to go down as a landmark year for Irish tech-driven company ATC Computer Transport & Logistics after its acquisition by global services firm Arvato, which is headquartered in Gütersloh, Germany.
ATC Computer Transport & Logistics is currently operating with 275 staff across 10 different countries in Europe and beyond.
The company was established by Alan and Patricia Young back in 1979 and, since that time, has been painstakingly developed into one of Europe’s leading providers of highly specialised transport, logistics, and technical services to data centre operators and global logistics partners.
Irish Trucker caught up with its Managing Director Keith Young to hear more on the company’s acquisition by Arvato, which officially took place on New Years Day after being nine months in the works.
“We’ve been acquired by a German company Arvato who provide global supply chain solutions. So, in the two companies coming together, it’s a grow together story,” Keith outlined.
“They provide warehouses, the big fixed infrastructure for supply of chain, complex IT systems and customs support. We provide transport and technical services, so the two fit together like Lego.
“Our hopes for 2025/26 are that we’ll expand our services on their global footprint, and the first target is in the US.”
The terms of the acquisition have saw ATC Computer Transport & Logistics keeping its brand name while it is integrated into Arvato as a standalone complimentary service to the wider business.
Keith will also continue to head up the business as Managing Director alongside his father Alan, with the former now a part of Arvato’s international management team.
“We’re still operating as an independent entity within Arvato, adding their services to ours and ours to theirs,” stated ATC’s Managing Director.
“Myself and Alan are still staying in our positions to continue to look after the customers and the team and expand across new locations globally.
On the road, it’s business as usual for ATC – a firm which grew around 66% last year according to its MD – and the plan is to continue on providing a consistent high-quality service.
The company’s impressive fleet is made up of modern, high-specification vehicles which transport equipment from door-to-door and the cargo remains in the same vehicle for the entirety of the journey.
This year has saw the welcome addition of five battery electric trucks at ATC’s Dublin premises in Baldonnell, which is part of the landmark investment of €22.5 million over five years to support its companywide ‘Driving Green Strategy’.
Announced back in September, it is one of Ireland’s most significant private investments in a zero-tailpipe emission transportation fleet, positioning the business as a global leader in the Green Logistics sector. It is also an important milestone in ATC’s ambitious target of achieving net zero by 2030.
“We have 40 long distance and about 20 in our big regions, just doing local work. Nine of those are battery electric and we have about 50 vans,” said Keith.
“We had a big launch last year. So, we have five battery electric trucks in Dublin that are servicing the data centre clients to decarbonise their final mile.
“We have two in Frankfurt as well and have three planned for London and then we have two medium distance electrics in Venlo in the Netherlands, which is obviously a big logistics centre for all of Europe.”
So, all of that considered, the clear question is what has been the secret behind ATC Computer Transport & Logistics meteoric rise to date?
How has a small start-up evolved into what is now one of Europe’s premier data centre, logistics and white glove specialist solution providers in the high-tech sector which holds an excellent reputation among clientele for its services?
“It’s flexibility,” stated Keith. “For our clients, their requirements change at short notice and their growing at a huge rate. So, we’re flexible with all the day to day requirements and we’ve grown with them to make sure that we always have capacity to support their needs.
“And along the way, the standards that they require we align to so safety, security and now sustainability as well.”
Since ‘Day One’, ATC has credited its staff as being its “greatest strength”.
A company powered by people to keep data centres moving safely and securely, it’s the reason why ATC has always promoted a culture of personal development and personal training, both internally and from leading industry bodies.
The company was shortlisted for four awards at the Irish Logistics & Transport Awards which took place on February 27th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry.
On the night three awards were won by ATC, which is testament to the amazing level of service and standards set by the firm. The company won the ‘Green Transformation Award’, The ‘‘Green Impact Award’ and also the ‘Logistics & Transport Leader 2025 Award’ which went to Alan Young.
Speaking on the nominations, Keith himself said the company was both delighted and honoured to receive the recognition for innovation and excellence.
“We had a launch earlier in the year for that sustainability strategy, so that’s a five-year investment in our fleet which will be worth €22.5m over five years,” said the Managing Director.
“That’s what supported our sustainability award submissions and then the other award was customer focus and that’s linked to what I said about flexibility for customers and something that we remain firm on.
“With the acquisition, what we looked for was a company that had similar values to myself and Alan and putting the customer first really was one of them.”
