Based in Williamstown, Co Galway, Expert Trucks Exporting specialises in the supplying of Volvo trucks for worldwide export. Irish Trucker spoke with company director Padraig Smyth to hear more about the ins and outs of this business, which operates with a second depot in Birmingham, England, and what its ambitions are as a company going forward.
If you’re looking to sell your used Volvo truck, then look no further than Expert Trucks Exporting in Williamstown, Co Galway (+353 87 9379347).
Expert Trucks Exporting operates with a team of experts which are very much dedicated to providing their customers with the best possible service and support.
Irish Trucker caught up with Padraig Smyth (Director & Sales) to learn all about a company which is firmly focused on supplying Volvo trucks for worldwide export.
“What I’d like to really promote here is the exporting side of the business and highlight the fact that we buy used Volvo trucks from suppliers looking to sell,” Padraig outlined.
“We buy them for export. I buy a lot of them (Volvo trucks) from people, whether it be from a dealer, guys in the trade, transport company or an individual. They don’t want to put them on DoneDeal or anything, so we just give them a price and buy them off them. We have an idea of a price we can get from our customers worldwide.”
Up and running six years now, Padraig and his team have really put an emphasis on the growth of Expert Trucks Exporting over these past 24 months and are steadfastly committed to helping customers find the right vehicle to suit their needs and budget.
All of their trucks are right-hand drive, with Volvo being the sole brand in which they stock.
Along with its base in Williamstown, Expert Trucks Exporting also has a second depot in Birmingham. This is a stock yard for trucks purchased in the UK to save on hauling home and back out to the UK, all sales are run from Williamstown.
“The exporting side of the business is established six years now but, honestly, I’ve only had the time to really put a real focus on it in the last two years, with my other business Expert Trucks New Truck & Trailer Parts taking up the majority of my time, luckily I now have a good team around me allowing the focus to be on exporting,” said Padraig.
“Expert Trucks New Truck & Trailer Parts is totally different from the exporting side. That’s two different companies. In Expert Trucks Exporting I would have six people working in it with me, with 20 working in Expert Trucks New Truck & Trailer Parts.”
He added: “We source good quality used trucks from Ireland and the UK, and export them by container, Flat Rack, EuroLiner or RoRo to customers in Asia, South America, Africa and The Middle East. Similar to the parts division, the export side of the business is going well.”
Right now, business is good for the company and Padraig hopes that it will continue to grow as its excellent service becomes more and more renowned nationwide.
After sourcing good quality used trucks from Ireland and the UK, Expert Trucks Exporting export them and offers CKD, RoRo & Container Services to its customers spanning over Africa, Asia, The Middle East, Australia and South America.
“Basically, the way I do put it to lads is: it’s South America, Middle East, Africa and Asia that we export to,” said the company’s founder and director.
“There are too many countries to mention and if you go on and name all of them, you’ll sicken them. All they need to know really is that I buy Volvo trucks for export. I buy them from transport companies, guys in the trade and dealers in England and in Ireland.
“It’s mostly Birmingham in England, but I do buy them elsewhere in England. I have a yard in Birmingham, just as a storage yard.”
So, all of that considered, the clear question is what has been the key to this venture’s success so far?
How has a small start-up grown into what is a busy used truck export business which has grown an excellent reputation amongst its customers in a relatively short period of time?
For Padraig, he feels that having adopted a simple approach from the start has stood to him so far.
“It’s just the fact that I specialise in Volvos only. We don’t deal in anything else. I keep it plain and simple and it’s a big brand all over the world,” he stated.
“We put them into containers then for customers, as well as put them into Euroliners and load onto Flat Racks and RoRo Basically, drive on the boat and drive off the boat.”
Looking at the months ahead for the business and towards 2026, Padraig says he’s eager to grow it further and continue getting its name out there so as more new customers will get in touch.
“We’ll be looking to generate more turnover and just keep getting the trucks and keep exporting them,” he stated plainly.
“A lot of people know of me, but a lot of people don’t know that we buy the Volvos. I was speaking to a Volvo dealer in England and he deals with a company in Northern Ireland.
“He told them that there was such a company here in Ireland and I ended up buying 14 Volvos off him yesterday morning. That’s the kind of thing we’re looking for here.”
So whether you have a single used Volvo truck, an entire fleet of them or trailers that you’re looking to sell, Expert Trucks Exporting can take it off your hands today for export.
Padraig wishes to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff for their hard work, dedication and skill.
