McCann Haulage)

Celebrating 15 years in business, McCann Haulage Ltd provides an unrivalled transport service from its base in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone.

Specialising in bulk haulage and bulk tipper work, and also offering a nationwide coal delivery service, McCann Haulage has a wide range of vehicles from 3.5 tonnes to 44 tonnes, meaning it has a solution for every job. The company is fronted by Mark McCann who is supported by a top-class and dedicated team comprising his sister and office manager Gail, and five drivers.

Behind the wheel of every McCann truck is a reliable, experienced and courteous driver. All drivers are ADR qualified for the carriage of dangerous goods by roads. This ensures all your hazardous ADR cargo is handled safely and legally. The company is also a fully licenced waste carrier for all of Ireland and the UK.

“I’m really lucky to have drivers who are always willing to go the extra mile for our customers,” Mark enthuses.

“They have played an integral part in our growth and success over the past 15 years. I was driving for another operator before deciding to buy my own lorry, which was a Scania 164 480, and putting it to work distributing coal to retail and wholesale customers. Then, in May 2020, which was two months in the Covid-19 pandemic, I got a lorry in with Kilsaran and now have four with them all year round. Kilsaran is our biggest customer by far, accounting for about 90% of our business.”

Mark is currently running five tractor units and up to a dozen trailers. The artic fleet consists of three Scania R450 Highlines, a Scania 450 Highcab Next Gen and a new Volvo FH 500 5-axle. His trailers include Wilcox walking floors for transporting tarmac, Schmitz Cargobull tippers for drawing quarry aggregates, bulk tippers for coal deliveries, curtainsiders and a flat trailer complete with a Moffett Mounty forklift.

Despite the nature of the work, the fleet is always immaculately turned out. With their striking livery, the trucks are a real head-turner.

“How your vehicles look says everything about your company. If they are clean and well presented, it gives a good impression,” the affable managing director explains.

“All vehicles are regularly checked and maintained to ensure there is no such thing as downtime for our customers. Our onsite mechanic James O’Hara looks after all our maintenance requirements. Our main suppliers include McDonnell Commercials in Monaghan, Joe Mooney of Ashbourne Truck Centre, Mickey McNally of A&M Trailers in Monaghan and Nigel Rafferty of NR Trucks in Dungannon.

“It goes without saying that we enjoy an excellent relationship with all of our suppliers and clients.”

McCann Haulage has forged particularly strong links with Kilsaran over the past five years, with trucks servicing its quarries in Monaghan, Louth, Meath and Dublin. Kilsaran is a household name in the Irish and UK construction sectors, being synonymous with innovative concrete and asphalt products as well as award-winning design for over 60 years.

Kilsararan specialises in producing superior quality construction products from its six business units, including Concrete Products & Aggregates, Precast, Road Surfacing & Contracting, KPRO pre-mixed dry mortar products, Paving & Walling, and Materials Recovery & Recycling. Headquartered in Piercetown, Co. Meath and proud to be a member of the Guaranteed Irish family of brands, the company mines raw materials from its own quarries and manufactures end products at various manufacturing plants across Ireland. Continually building upon a solid foundation of quality, service and innovation, Kilsaran now operates out of 24 locations nationwide where more than 1,000 people are employed.

“We were very lucky to get in with Kilsaran. They are a fantastic company to work for,” Mark continues.

“We have lorries working out of their quarries in Gallstown near Drogheda, Annagor in nearby Duleek, Co. Meath, Carrickmacross and Ballinascorney in south Co. Dublin. We haul limestone from Carrickmacross and sand, stone, tar and rock from the other quarries.”

One of the Scania R450 Highlines is dedicated to the coal distribution side of the business. Mark offers a bagging facility to other coal distributors at his Dungannon base, which is strategically located two miles from the M1, 40 minutes from Belfast and only an hour from Derry and Enniskillen. He also has 1,000m2 of secure storage sheds available onsite.

Asked what has been the secret to his company’s success, he replies: “It’s down to hard work and giving the customers what they want. When you ring the phone, you get me. We’re able to offer that personal touch you just don’t get from many other companies. Customer satisfaction has always been number one with us.”

In summary, McCann Haulage prides itself on its professional, dependable, trustworthy, value-for-money and exceptional service. Mark would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff for their dedication, hard work and expertise.
