Murray & Son Coaches celebrates 30 years

Celebrating 30 years in business, Murray & Son Coaches in Duleek, Co. Meath provides exceptional bus and coach hire services across counties Meath, Louth and Dublin that are tailored to meet their clients’ transportation needs.
From humble beginnings in 1995, the family-run business has grown to run a modern fleet of 70 buses and coaches, and employ 55 people directly. The fleet has more than tripled in size since Murray & Son Coaches became a school transport provider for Bus Éireann in 2021. This work now accounts for half of all business.
“We have grown exponentially over the past four years, going from 20 to 70 vehicles since partnering with Bus Éireann,” enthuses Michael Murray, who came on board with his father Christy in 2012.
“We do school runs in Meath, Louth and Dublin, from Drogheda, Ardee and Duleek to Donabate, Navan and Ashbourne. We had been doing private school runs in and around Duleek before the Bus Éireann contract allowed us to expand. It has become a huge part of our business, but we cater for much more besides.
“We’re always adapting and moving forward. Our drivers, who are the heartbeat of the operation and are always smartly dressed, include a number of females who are prompt, efficient, friendly and helpful, just like all of our drivers are.”
Murray & Son Coaches has come a long way since Christy Murray formed a small taxi company in the early 1990s before progressing into minibuses and coaches in 1995. The family business now provides a wide range of transport services, including coach hire, tours, concert travel, school transport, hen and stag parties, airport and port transfers, sports travel, golf tours, corporate event transport and weddings.
“Whether you’re planning a day trip, organising extended tours or arranging transfers, we offer flexible options to suit your individual requirements with professional and experienced drivers. Our simple booking process ensures hassle-free access to quality transport for any occasion,” Michael says.
The bus operator prides itself on its magnificent and luxurious fleet of vehicles. Ranging in size from eight to 84-seat, they include a selection of wheelchair accessible buses, while the executive coaches offer air conditioning, WIFI, audio/video facilities, WC facilities and comfortable reclining seats with ample leg room. As part of an ongoing replenishment programme, Murray & Son Coaches recently took delivery of a new 55-seat Higer Pegasus from the Harris Group, a new 84-seat Alexander Dennis Enviro400ER direct from Alexander Dennis in Scotland, three new 33-seat Iveco Turas’ from EVM and four new 16-seat Ford Transit minibuses from Smith’s of Drogheda.
“We have a mix of makes and models,” Michael continues.
“The 16-seats are all Transits, the 29 and 33-seats are Mercedes and Iveco, while the 55, 80 and 84-seats are MAN, Higer and Volvo. All of the 80-seaters are equipped with disability lifts, while a number of our school buses are also wheelchair accessible.”
There is no such thing as downtime thanks to the company’s expert maintenance team who carry out servicing, repairs and 12-week inspection checks in its state-of-the-art workshop. Vehicles under warranty are maintained by the main dealers.
Murray & Son Coaches are committed to providing passengers with the highest safety standards, with each coach fitted with seat belts and the latest safety features. All drivers are fully trained, courteous and professional in every aspect of their job. They undergo regular training in driving practice and health & safety.
“Each driver has their own vehicle and treats it like it’s their own. They take great pride in the appearance of the vehicle they drive. We’d be nothing without our drivers who are supplemented by up to 15 part-time drivers.”
It’s a real family affair at Murray’s where Christy and Michael are joined by Michael’s wife Lauren, who runs the office. Christy’s wife Rita, who owns ‘A Touch of Class’ hair salon in Duleek, also helps out when she can. Michael and Lauren have two young sons, Alfie (four) and Frankie (two), who they hope will continue to keep the business going in years to come.
