Dennehy Commercials’ Paul Guerin celebrates big win
16/02/2026
Paul Guerin of Dennehy Commercials in Limerick was proud and delighted to be named Technician of the Year at the 2026 Fleet Transport Awards.
The technician par excellence was one of the big winners at the Irish Haulier of the Year Awards which recognise and reward best practice in the Irish road transport industry. A good mechanic is not just someone who can fix your vehicle; they’re also someone you can trust. They should be friendly and willing to answer all your questions, and Paul ticks all of these boxes and more.
“It was a lovely surprise to get,” the Clarina, Co. Limerick native modestly says.
“I’m thrilled to win this prestigious award. It reflects well on everyone here at Dennehy Commercials. The support I get from my colleagues on a daily basis is second to none. I’m not sure who nominated me. I think it might have been our salesman Martin Haugh, who I get on very well with, but I can’t say for certain. But whoever it was, I’m very grateful to them.
“I pride myself on doing the job right, first time. I take my time in trying to suss out and pinpoint what the problem is. I start with the most obvious thing and I’ll go for the least expensive part to fix it. I’ll only reach for the more costly part in the event of the cheaper one not working.
“I try to keep downtime to an absolute minimum for the customer by getting to the bottom of the problem quickly. If I can’t solve it, I’ll put my hand up and look for help. You’re always learning in this job. It’s a sector that’s always evolving and I strive to keep up to speed with all the latest technological advances and changes.
“If you don’t move with the times, you’ll get left behind.”
Paul is a key part of the Dennehy Commercials service team, having joined from McCarthy Commercials four years ago.
“I served my time as a car and light commercial mechanic with a garage in Limerick. I was there for nine years, working mostly on Land Rovers,” the 46-year-old explains.
“I then worked for a Hino and Isuzu dealer for four months before deciding to go out on my own for a while. I joined McCarthy Commercials in Watergrasshill after that and spent 14 years there working on Volvo trucks. I prefer working with trucks, even though my background is in cars and light commercials.
“Dennehy Commercials have three different dealerships – MAN, Renault and Isuzu – which means the work is more varied and challenging.”
