11 Plant & Repairs)

Established in March 2024, 11 Truck & Plant Repairs in Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick is a fast-growing mobile service specialising in mechanical repairs, AdBlue solutions, full diagnostics, air conditioning, fault code permanent deletions and 24-hour roadside assistance.

While the business is still in its infancy, its owner Des Corbett has a wealth of experience in the industry. “I've always been involved in trucks and contract crushing. If you like hardship, contract crushing is the game to be in!” he jokingly remarks.

“The first truck I was ever under was in Walsh Western in Parteen. I served my time as a mechanic with them. I then worked for Noel McMahon Commercials in Kilmaley before working in contract crushing in both Ireland and Ghana. I worked for Ward & Ward Haulage in Birdhill after that. While I was there, I started to invest in my own diagnostics. It suited them as much as it suited me and eventually led to me going out on my own.

“It has been a case of so far, so good. The hours are long, but I can’t complain. I’m very lucky with the customer-base I have. The likes of Ward & Ward, Conradh Construction, GreenSweep, McMahon Concrete Products, Paddy Dore Commercials and McGrath Precast have been a huge support to me. You’re always guaranteed payment from them which means a lot to a start-up business. For them to put their trust in me is very gratifying.

“I always strive to give the best possible service to my customers. I’ll always go the extra mile for them. I give a lifetime’s warranty on my work. I continue to invest in the latest technology and AdBlue solutions. If you have a problem, I’ll have the solution.”

11 Truck & Plant Repairs offers a wide range of services, including air conditioning, AdBlue solutions, ECU programming, EGR & DPF solutions, Stage 1 & 2 power increase, AdBlue deduction by up to 75%, Scania and Volvo lift axle override solutions, diagnostics for all makes and models of cars, vans, trucks and tractors, and for any type of machine or stationary engine.

Des has a fully-kitted out Renault Master, which is supported by a Volkswagen Caddy, dedicated to his mobile repair service.

“My friend Willie Daly of Askeaton Paving convinced me to buy my first work van while I was still with Ward & Ward. I was talking about it, but I needed that push from Willie to actually go and do it. I already had the tools and done the courses. So buying the work van was the next logical step,” he recalls.

Des uses the latest diagnostic tools to identify faults or issues. These include: SDP 3 for Scania, Vocom for Volvo, XENTRY for Mercedes trucks, XENTRY for cars and vans, IDSS for Isuzu, MPDR for Hitachi, Deutz, Linde forklift, CNH, Mitsubishi, Perkins, CAT, Cummins Insite, Cummins Caltren, JCB service master, Trasdata slave tool, Trasdata master tool, New Genius slave tool, New Genius master tool, Kess 33, KT200, Tag flash, Flex and Snap-on Zeus.

In addition, he has Astech diagnostics with online access to programme most new control units on any make of car or van, two-channel picoscope oscilloscope and four-channel snap-on oscilloscope, Mahale DC 7500 mobile brake tester, Jaltest full activation trucks and light commercials, and off highway agricultural stationary engines, cranes, forklifts and teleporters.

Furthermore, the affable Limerick man is a qualified Lantra machinery inspector. The Lantra Awards are the UK and Ireland’s only awarding organisation offering both training and full qualifications, suitable for beginners to advanced learners. Lantra offers over 600 high-quality training courses and qualifications, meeting all your training needs. Its certifications are internationally recognised across Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, Iraq, Singapore and Malaysia.

Distance is no object to the mobile diagnostics and technical repairs specialist who will travel to wherever his services are required by his valued customers.

“While most of the repairs I carry out are in the Mid-West, I’ve gone as far as Kildare for Conradh Construction. I’ll always put the customer first. That’s part of the reason why I have such a good relationship with them. I’m reliable, trustworthy and good at what I do.

“I also enjoy an excellent relationship with my suppliers, including Keogh’s Garage in Wicklow, who I buy my Volvo parts from, and Pat Hickey Truck & Trailer Spares on the Dock Road in Limerick, Ryan Plant & Equipment, Broadford and Keeko Plant Parts in Cork.”

When asked what the significance of ‘11’ is in the company’s name, Des replies: “We used to call our late mother Irene’s house ‘No. 11’, and when I was trying to come up with a name, my brother Noel suggested it. My other brother PJ liked it too, so we decided to run with it. Mam passed away in June 2015 and this name ensures her legacy lives on.”

As his burgeoning business continues to go from strength to strength, Des would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their support. He is also grateful for the help he receives from his cousin Stephen with regard to running the business as well as the support and understanding of his wife Bridget Kelly, daughter Chloe and granddaughters Hallie and Honey.
