The countdown is on to Full of the Pipe 2026 which returns to Mondello Park on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12.

This will be the 18th edition of the indoor and outdoor extravaganza which has firmly established itself as Ireland’s premier truck show.  Whether you’re all about the chrome and custom details or just looking for some fun, the Full of the Pipe Truck Show delivers on all fronts.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever with an exciting line-up of on-track activities, live music, trade stands, funfair and judged awards for custom and working trucks. A great day out for all the family, there isn’t another truck show quite like it.

As always, there is a packed list of judged categories, including Best Tractor Unit, Best Rigid, Best Recovery, Best Lighting and more. There is also the hotly-contested Best Custom Truck and Best Fleet awards and, of course, the overall Truck of the Show. For something a little louder, the Decibel Challenge is back.

Other feature events that are sure to draw the crowds are the Head-to-Head Drag Race, Trialstar Motorcycle Display and a new Truck & Trailer Reversing Competition. There’s plenty happening on the tarmac too. The funfair is open all weekend, with rides and games for all ages. There’s also a trade village on the paddock, offering everything from parts and tools to accessories, clothing and more – ideal for both truck enthusiasts and casual browsers.

Weekend ticket holders won’t want to miss a moment. After Saturday’s on-track chaos wraps up, the Danny Byrne Band returns to the main stage from 8pm for a full evening show. That will be followed by the biggest hits from DJ Ollie Mullooly.

The event is open to the public from 11am until late on the Saturday and from 10am until 5pm on the Sunday. Early bird tickets are available to purchase from the Mondello Park website (www.mondellopark.ie)

This will be the third summer staging of Full of the Pipe (and the fourth in total) at the iconic Co. Kildare venue and the organisers are hoping its central location will reduce the burden for hard-pressed truck owners whose very livelihoods are threatened by the escalating fuel prices caused by the war in the Middle East.

“Unfortunately, spiralling fuel prices are the big issue facing everyone in the industry right now,” acknowledges Colin Hegarty, who co-organises the event with Kevin Mulqueen.

“A lot of this year’s truck runs have already been cancelled because of the fuel crisis. The Government isn’t meeting us halfway on this. The measures they have taken so far aren’t near enough. Truckers are struggling to make ends meet, but we still hope they will turn out in the big numbers we are used to seeing at Full of the Pipe.

“We would remind them that Mondello Park is very central and that once they get there, their truck will be parked up for two days. We’re very mindful of the cost of diesel at the moment and the impact it’s having on our friends and colleagues.

“This is our 18th show and 19th year if you include 2020 which was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The support for Full of the Pipe has been phenomenal and we hope it’ll be the same again this year. Mondello Park is a fantastic, fully tarmacked venue which transforms into a mini Assen. We’re getting closer to Assen every year! That’s what we’re striving for.”

He adds: “We look after all the lorries on the ground and Mondello take care of the upkeep of the grounds themselves and that takes off a lot of the pressure, so Kevin and I have more time at our disposal to mingle with people than we would have had at previous venues. Our relationship with Mondello is second to none. There are hot showers and toilets, and everybody and every vehicle will be clean, safe and secure.

“And not forgetting our own amazing team of volunteers who help out over the weekend.”

Kevin Mulqueen hopes Full of the Pipe will offer some respite for truckers in these difficult times.

Kevin Mulqueen hopes Full of the Pipe will offer some respite for truckers in these difficult times.

“Unfortunately, we’re in the middle of a fuel crisis, but you can park up, have the craic, chill out and enjoy yourself,” he says.

“We want truckers to put their worries to one side for the weekend. It’s also a great place to meet up with old friends and to make new contacts. It’s an opportunity to generate new business and showcase your truck at the same time. There’s an unbelievable buzz and atmosphere.

“With Full of the Pipe, we have something for everyone. Everyone is more than welcome to come and experience all the brilliant entertainment, shows, food stalls, vendors and show trucks that will be on display. We’ll have lots more activity on the grandstand this year, including the launch of Elliott Engineering’s Ford Custom Super Van. We’re looking forward to a great event.

“The only complaint I heard last year was that the weather was too hot. That proves we’re never happy when it comes to the weather in Ireland!”

A new event which the organisers expect to go down a treat is the Reversing Competition which will put your reversing skills to the test. In the interest of fairness, competitors will use the same truck and trailer to reverse around parking cones.

“The Head-to-Head Drag Race was very well received last year and we’re having it again. The Decibel Challenge was a big hit too and we’re also looking forward to the Trialstar freestyle bike display,” Colin explains.

Entry fee per vehicle is €70 plus VAT, with an extra €5 for judging. Trucks will be categorised on their strongest merits. “We found this is the best way to adjudicate,” Kevin says.

Full of the Pipe wouldn’t happen without the support of the trucking community and sponsors. This year’s main sponsors are Moffett, Bridgestone, Moran Signs, Reflect Autocare, Blaklader Workwear, Derry Bros Shipping, Kings of the Road, David Clegg Signs, Legacy Irish Cider and Interparts Cavan.

“The show wouldn’t happen without the support of truckers and our valued sponsors. They have made us what we are today. We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Interparts Cavan on board as our newest sponsor and to thank Gabriel Fitzsimons, Donal McAdam and the team there for getting behind us,” Kevin concludes.
