CTL Express)

CTL Express has been providing fast, flexible, reliable, secure and cost-effective delivery solutions nationwide since 1980. Previously trading as Conway Transport Ltd, the Newcastle West, Co. Limerick-based company rebranded as CTL Express in 2022 and continues to go from strength to strength.

If you’re looking for top-class haulage, parcel and pallet distribution next-day anywhere in Ireland, CTL Express has you covered. Customer satisfaction is at the core of the long-established family business and success is ensured through its IT and communications systems as well as its ability to adapt to its customers’ ever-changing needs.

CTL Express’ exceptional fleet of trucks and vans are fully equipped and fully tracked. The company’s next-day delivery service covers areas including counties Limerick, Kerry, Clare and Tipperary, while its articulated trucks deliver full loads all over Ireland on a daily basis. As a member of PalletXpress – which was recently acquired by ACE Express – CTL Express provides a next-day pallet collection and delivery service in Ireland, and an express service to and from the UK.

PalletXpress operates from a conveniently located hub in Huntstown Business Park, Cappagh Road, Dublin. Its 21 haulier members deliver freight to the hub for onward delivery by other members.

“As PalletXpress’ membership has grown, so too has the volume of our work,” explains CTL transport manager Peter Conway, who runs the business along with his father Gerry (Gerard), brother Pat and a 50-strong professional team.

“We’re extremely busy with parcels, pallets, full and part loads, and expect to get even busier when the Ryder Cup comes to Adare – which is in the middle of our network – next year. So we’re looking forward to that and the opening of the long-awaited Adare Bypass before then. The increased business generated by the Ryder Cup will keep us busy before, during and after the event.”

Peter adds: “The decision to rebrand our name has been good for business. The branding on our vehicles is bigger and better, and has got us noticed a bit more.”

An industry-leader in the Irish transportation and logistics industry, CTL Express combines the resources of a highly-skilled team, decades of experience and the financial stability to create competitive advantages for its customers. Whether it’s across town, across Ireland or around the world, the West Limerick operator delivers with a portfolio of high-performance offerings tailored to customers of all sizes.

CTL Express offers outstanding customer service at every level, supported by industry professionals and state-of-the-art processes and technology that save time and ensure faster transit times.

“Our IT system and flexibility are two of our big selling points. We can offer more on-time and priority services than our competitors. A lot of it comes down to the variety of our fleet and our top-class team. We’ve transported everything from an envelope to an airplane wing, which we safely delivered from Shannon to Belfast. We keep a modern fleet to maintain the highest standards of service,” Peter says.

“We’re also fortunate to have a fantastic team. Our drivers are experienced, reliable and friendly. They are fully-trained and take great pride in their work and the appearance of their vehicles. They’re the backbone of our business and have played a big part in our growth and success to date.”

The Conways operate a fleet of 25 trucks, 20 trailers and 20 vans, each tastefully decked out in their company’s trademark orange-and-white livery and emblazoned with the new logo. In each of the last three years, they have taken delivery of new Volvo FH500s, while they also invested in two new Volvo FL 18-tonne rigids in 2024. All of the new Volvos were purchased from McCarthy Commercials in Clonlara, Co. Clare. They’ve also upgraded their trailers which are mostly curtainsiders, five of which have tail-lifts.

CTL Express has come a long way since Gerry Conway started out as a sole trader 46 years ago. Gerry had extensive experience as a driver in the freight business and felt that he had the necessary skills and qualities to start his own transport company. In 1984, he purchased his first van and immediately secured a contract collecting and delivering freight in the Munster region.

Alongside his wife Claire, he incorporated Conway Transport as a limited company in 1992. Creating the perfect customer experience through a winning combination of superb vehicles, skilled and experienced operatives, and unbeatable service levels, the family business has flourished. Its client-base varies from local SMEs to multinational organisations, many of which are household names.

Similar to all transport operators, CTL Express faces many challenges, but is determined to meet them head on.

“Costs have increased dramatically across the board,” Peter points out.

“Fuel, tolls, electricity, insurance, wages and the cost of living have all shot up. You just have to keep going and ensure your customers are happy. Without them, you have no business.”

The Conways would like to take this opportunity to thank their customers and suppliers for their continued support as well as their staff for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
